Antonio Gaudi has done it again! Parc Guell, a 20-hectare park created by Gaudi originally for Barcelona aristocracy, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Anyone who would come and visit the park would not contest why this fascinating place was hailed as such.
Walking in Parc Guell best resembles a tour of the Neverland. It is like a fantasy that has been realized. All the stone structures are nothing but amazing. The entrance itself can already come as a big treat for park lovers. It is adorned with a dragon fountain made of friendly colored tiles. As a matter of fact, even the walkways are dressed with beautiful tiles, each demonstrating an extravagant work of art.
One of the many wonderful attractions in the park is the Hall of the Hundred Columns or Sala de las Cien Columnas in Spanish.
Hold your breath as you pass by this magnificent architecture. It is even funnier when some people accidentally bump into each other because they were all looking at the four circular rosette surrounded by four smaller rosettes representing the four seasons and the lunar cycle, respectively. There will never be a simple walk in Parc Guell. There is one striking walkway in the area that is supported by amazing sculpted rock pillars that seem like plants growing from the ground. Perhaps, Gaudi once again integrated his touch of organic elements and natural shapes in this one of a kind creation. The lush greenery rests on a vast hill wherein at the top of Parc Guell is a terraced garden overlooking both the park, and Barcelona. It is another breathtaking experience going over the sweet mixture of natural and artificial elements which very much defines Gaudi.
There is a small house in Parc Guell that also serves as a museum dedicated to Gaudi’s artworks. It is interesting to note that Gaudi once lived in that same house. It was very personal for him because he designed almost everything in it, including the furniture inside. In between breaths, tourists can stop over a restaurant for a quick drink and to freshen up. Half a day may be enough to get the most of the place. Tourist should definitely cameras with them as there are so many attractions worth taking a picture of. Parc Guell is a paradise within a paradise. Art enthusiasts will surely love the place. There is nothing common about the park because even the benches have been lovingly molded and designed.
